Comic Con was over 2 weeks ago you say? Shut your mouth! Editing photos is a long and arduous task, especially while working a full time job, playing and penning 3 reviews, and on occasion, saving the world from certain doom. I know, I know, cry moar!
At any rate, here are some of the photos from San Diego Comic Con 2011. You'll find some cosplay, some toys, a bit of cleavage, and a huge heaping of awesome. Break out the soda and popcorn and enjoy the show!
I never really understood region specific bonus content. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, and your region is the one that gets the short end of the stick, it's frustrating. Case in point, Deus Ex: Human Revolution Collector's Edition, available only to select European countries, New Zealand, and Australia. Some of you may not be stressing it, since us North Americans will be getting the Augmented Edition, but just look at what the Collector's Edition includes:
Making of DVD and motion comic (also included in the Augmented Edition)
40-page Art Book (also included in the Augmented Edition)
10,000 in-game credits
Just about all pre-order DLC, which includes a mission pack and hefty weapon pack
Adam Jensen Play Arts Kai action figure
Okay, I can live without the credits. Missing out on the DLC is when it starts to hurt a little more. But once you say that I can't has the marvelously crafted Square Enix Play Arts Kai figure, that's when I start to get a little batshit. Though I don't own any Play Arts Kai figures, they are very well noted as being some of the best gaming figures on the market. I'm dying a little inside.
To soften the crushing blow, Square Enix has announced they will be releasing Play Arts Kai Adam Jensen as a standalone figure, along with antagonists Federova and Barrett. They'll retail for about ¥4800 yen, which is a little less than the difference in price between the Augmented and Collector's Editions. So you can understand why I'm a little upset that American collectors are missing out on them goods.
Toy alert, haters can stop reading right now! The fuggin' sweet figure that shipped with Killzone 3's Helghast Edition isn't just a one off production. DC Direct will be producing two more figures from the popular PS3 series, in plain Assault Infantry and exotic Sniper flavors. The figures stand a typical 6.5" tall, and are sculpted directly from Guerilla's character art, so there's no doubting they look official.
The good news is that they look fly as hell. I've never owned any DC Direct toys, so I can't speak for durability or articulation, but at least they're lookers. Two outta three ain't bad. The bad news? Remember the series of Mass Effect 2 figures that DC Direct was producing? That didn't work out too well, as series 2 was canned due to 'differences' between BioWare and DC Direct, with the former saying only the nicest things about the latter (that's sarcasm).
They're available now, so go buy them, then let me borrow one so I can accidentally break it.
I was greeted this morning by a package courtesy of PlayStation and Guerilla Games containing a Killzone 3 branded bag full of Army Men. Awesome! I haven't played with Army Men since some time last year, so it is very pleasing that I'll be hitting my yearly Army Men quota early in 2011.
These aren't just any old little green plastic men though, they come in custom ISA and Helghast flavors. While the ISA trooper looks like your typical soldier, the Helghast all rock their iconic masks, complete adorably evil red specs. Also of interest, the fact that the pack contains 11 total figures; 10 Helghast to 1 ISA soldier. Nope, it's not a mistake. It's just getting us used to the overwhelming odds we'll have to face in Killzone 3.
If you haven't preordered it already, you can pick up Killzone 3 this coming Tuesday, February 22 in North America, and three days later in Europe. Check back soon for our review.
I try to squeeze in some talk about Kaiyodo's Revoltech figures whenever I can. The line outputs awesome, high quality, inexpensive, insanely articulated figures that wont make you feel like a complete lame for blowing your cash wad on a toy.
A few weeks ago, pictures of a protoype Jehuty from Zone of the Enders was leaked. Hot damn, Revoltech getting it on with video games? Too good to be true, right? Apparently not, as the silhouette teasing an upcoming figure uncannily resembles Metroid's Samus Aran. Of course this is pure rumor, as that chalk outline with the words "Revoltech 2011 Lineup" emblazoned in Japanese is all we got to work with but come on, did you see the header image?
This could be the start of something big; Samus, Jehuty, and even Iron Man Mark VI. If Kaiyodo cotinues to use the Revoltech brand to release US comic and gaming characters, their market could balloon in the west.
Does anyone remember Zone of the Enders? Konami and Hideo Kojima's awesome futuristic mech battle game for the PlayStation 2? I hope you say yes, but I wouldn't be surprised if you say no. For a series with such promise, it was dreadfully undermarketed and went underdeveloped, never quite reaching it's full potential.
As a lover of both video games and action figures, I'm thrilled to discover that Zone of the Enders will be getting the plastic treatment, by way of my favorite line of figures, Kaiyodo's Revoltech line. Revoltech figures have incredible articulation, making just about any pose possible, and come with tons of accessories to assure your Orbital Frame is fully outfitted for any situation.
The lovely Jehuty figure will be available in Japan starting April 15th, for about 2,850 yen, which is approximately $35 for you importers. If you're an action figure head I'm sure you have your go-to spot for this sort of thing, be it local, or online. If you're new to the world of high-quality plastics and are looking for an easy in, why don't you try Big Bad Toy Store as the release date gets a little closer?
For those who enjoy the platformer SuperMeatBoy, and/or vinyl toys, here’s a meaty treat. In April 2011, the Super Meat Boy vinyl toy will be onsale featuring two versions: normal, innocent faced Meat Boy and the PETA approved beat up version.
Each variation will be limited to 250 pieces and priced at $39.99 so grab your Meat as soon as you can. Preorder it, or suffer the consequences of possibly not being able to get your hands on it forever! The figure stands at a respectable 8" tall and has adjustable arms, but unfortunately will not leave puddles of blood on your bookshelf. The full color box is designed by the awesome guys at Team Meat.
If $40 is too stiff a price to pay for eight inches of Meat, Cubeecraft’s papercraft homage to our lovable chunk is still readily available for your delight. Click, download, print, cut, fold, enjoy.
Time Killers is a once a week post dedicated to some quick and dirty images, videos, and miscellaneous links found out there on the interwebs. Mainly interesting and funny stuff that I don't get around to writing about, but are still worth a look. Enjoy this weekend's Time Killers.
Purveyors of fine action figure crafting, Neca, are creating quite the name for themselves with their game and comic based toys. I own their Hayabusa, Leonardo, and Kratos figures, all of which I simply love, not only for their detail and articulation, but because the price point lies under twenty bones.
News of Assassin's Creed II's Ezio (via Kotaku), immortalized by Neca in action figure form, is great for fans of the series and figure collectors alike. Available in both black and white color variants, Neca's Ezio will slay you with his sculpt, style, and sub-Jackson price. That's a lot of class for a little cash, yo.
Keeping on the topic, this Assassin's Creed Brotherhood gameplay demo has circulated the interwebz for a while, but it's fallen to the wayside here at Otaku But Gangsta. I really wanted to put this up to show the dedicated readers of OBG just how dope this title could be if it's potential is realized. Better late than never right?
Don't let the cult leader drone of the voice over scare you from the appealing game mechanics. It's worth the full watch if you're a fan of the Assassin's Creed series, or even if you've never played any of the titles and are wondering what Brotherhood is all about.
